Fibre Channel

If you see “IO_PAGE_FAULT” in dmesg every 5 seconds, add “iommu=pt” to the kernel command line. It's probably specific to EPYC CPUs.

Questions

  1. How fast can the 16GFC gear go?
  2. Does NPIV work? (Not on the first try.)
    • It fails the same way the 8GFC gear did… if we get it working here, can we get it working there?
  3. Can it use old optics and work the same way at lower speeds?
  4. Does it use less power that way?
  5. Do these cards have Ethernet personality available?
    1. Can I use the 16G optics?
    2. Can I use the 1G optics?
    3. Do I need to get 10G optics?
  6. Does it make sense to export ZFS via NVMe instead of iSCSI?

Learnings

  • They want to boot a GPT/EFI volume in EFI mode.
  • The ports are BACKWARDS!!! RAGE
  • Port numbers are off by 2 instead of by 1. WWPN and WWNN are adjacent now.
