Hymn of Invitation

And we reconsecrate ALL THE THINGS!!!

In David's opinioin, we should consider other hymns. This hymn emphasizes how the people, not the building, is the church. Maybe it fits into another part of the service but for right here, it kind of says the opposite of what we're saying.

Unless we wanted to just do the refrain in between the things we're re-consecrating and ignore the verses; that would make for decent punctuation.

  • 558 - We Are the Church
    • It begins with a refrain, has five verses, and ends with the refrain again

Elevator

Gracious Lord, we thank you for reminding us in Galatians 3:28 that “ There is no longer Jew or Greek; there is no longer slave or free; there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” Today there is also no longer able-bodied or infirm, young or old, for we welcome all to “enter your gates with thanksgiving,” by the blessing of our elevator. We praise you for providing this needed help through generous gifts and compassionate hearts.  We re-consecrate it today to continue the important work of meeting our whole community’s needs.

Windows

Dear Lord God, we celebrate Jesus’ life through the art of our stained glass windows. You speak to us through the beautiful windows that remind us of his miraculous birth, to his knocking at the door of our hearts, to his gentle shepherding through our lives and his triumphant resurrection at the tomb on Easter. He was the king with the thorny crown, the light of the world, and king of our lives today. We re-consecrate the historic windows that let in your glorious light and witness to the world our faith, and joy in living for Christ.

Boiler

Loving God, in Genesis 8, you remind us that, ” As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease.” We thank you for the warmth of our heating system, to protect us in the cold winters, that we can gather to worship and serve in comfort and safety. We gratefully share the warmth with our unsheltered neighbors and praise your lovingkindness. We re-consecrate our new boiler and the hands that repaired it.

Building

This building is not ours but yours, oh God Who Provides. Its strong walls have lasted through 120 years, through many pastors, believers, and families who meet together to praise your holy name. As the storms came, the winds blew and the earth shook, the building stood firm as a witness to your power and strength. We are just the current stewards of this place, and at just the right time, you provided the workers to strengthen and beautify the outside to reflect the spirit within it. Its foundation will always be Jesus Christ, and we will continue the work of reaching outside to the needy world. We re- consecrate not just masonry, but ourselves.

Communion?

Only if Pastor and Bishop want it. We don't, as it would make the service VERY long and it's already long.

Closing Hymn

  • 3132: House of God

Dismissal

“For The Beauty Of The Earth” is listed under ??? and I don't remember why it got mentioned.
