=====Musescore 3===== ====Before Entering Notes==== * **If there is a pickup note at the start** then it's easier to create a pickup measure in the wizard than after the fact. But if you forget, it's okay; you can split a measure later and make it work. * Time signature * Most settings are in free time, or just don't need a signature. * Turn off measure numbers: Format -> Style -> uncheck Measure Numbers * Turn off page numbers: Format -> Style -> Page FIXME This option is not here * Key signature * On the left, "Key signatures" is a palette. Drag and drop (I think?) ====Note Entry==== * add notes * It likes to jump octaves when you least expect it. ctrl+up and ctrl+down move the currently-selected note up or down an octave. * Tuplets: In Note Entry mode, select a note the total length of the tuplet. (So, for 3 quarter note triplets, select a half note.) Push ctrl+3, then enter the three notes. * Fermata: Select the note that gets the fermata. From the "Articulations" palette on the left, double-click the fermata. * If you add 4 eighth notes, it is likely to bar them all together. To split into two pairs: * Select the third note * Expand the "Beam Properties" palette * **double-click** the left-most option. Now notes 1-2 should have a bar and notes 3-4 should have a bar. * add slurs * delete extra measures: Select and press **CTRL + DEL** ===Cue Notes=== * If the inspector pane isn't on the left, press F8, or go View -> Inspector. * Select the notes you want to be cue notes * (Unfortunately it seems you can't select a range, but you can select all the notes at once with ctrl+click) * Under **Chord** check "Small" * Under **Note** leave "Small" **unchecked** ===Splitting a Measure=== * Select the note immediately after where you want the split * Tools -> Measure -> "Split Measure Before Selected Note/Rest" * Select a note in the measure before the split * press enter; the lines should be how you want them now. ===Hiding Stuff=== To make the words easier to fit, you might want to leave the clef, key signature, or time signature out of the slides. * Have the inspector pane open. (F8 or turn on View -> Inspector) * If it's one thing you want to hide, select it, and un-check "visible" in the Inspector. * If it's multiple things, select them all, and click the "mark all invisible" button. These items will show up in gray on the score but they won't be included in the printout ====Format for exporting==== * Set page to A7, landscape * FIXME The default margins (10 mm) are probably sub-optimal. * Futz with the spacing until you're happy * Print to a PDF * Open the PDF in Atril * Set the zoom to 300% * Take screenshots =====GIMP===== ====Fix colors==== * Paste your screenshot as a new image and set the zoom to 66%. * use Colors -> Curves to increase all values below 240 to 255. ====Crop==== * Select a box around the line. Adjust the "handles" on the selection one by one until - The top and bottom **handles** touch the top and bottom of the **staff** - The left and right **edges** of the either touch or cut off the ends of the staff lines, as appropriate. - If those dimensions cut something off, go back to MuseScore and find a clef that fits the music better. * Image -> Crop To Selection ====Export==== * (ctrl+shift+E) File -> Export As... Files should be named to this pattern: FIXME
